WOMEN'S SOCIAL SAILING AND SKILLS TRAINING
WITH THE WAIKAWA BOATING CLUB
2012
Programme will be updated in the New Year
At the end of 2008 Women's Social Sailing began at the Waikawa
Boating Club. This was instigated by one of our senior women skippers
who has been ably assisted by other women boat owner/skippers
in the Club who have been so generous in giving their time and
the use of their boats for the girls to have a chance of fulfilling
their dream of sailing. It has proved to be a huge success.
We are very
lucky to have strong support from men in the Club, who are very
willing to share their considerable knowledge, and when extra
boats are needed allow us to sail on theirs. It couldn't happen
with out all these people.
The Women's
Social Sailing follows the concept of Women on Water to enable
women to sail, or to learn to sail 'in a fun, safe and non threatening
environment'.
We run a sailing
programme and an onshore programme during the winter.
Having been
out for an initial experience on the boats, those wishing to continue
sailing are welcome to become associate or full members of the
Club and join in the Women's Sailing activities that happen regularly
throughout the year.
Some may go
on to join a racing crew and others may happily remain cruisers.
Whatever - it is a wonderful experience to be a 'WOMAN ON WATER'!
Please contact
the Club if you wish to join in the Women's Social Sailing.
